Campo del Cielo, meaning “Field of the Sky”, comes from a group of iron nickel meteorites that fell around 4,000 – 5,000 years ago in northern Argentina, near the border of Chaco and Santiago del Estero. Local Indigenous people had long known of the stones, and Spanish explorers recorded them in the 1500s.
